The original Manchester Central railway station was constructed in 1875 and previously served as the terminus for express trains between Manchester and London St Pancras. The station closed its doors in 1969 and it wasn’t until 1986 when it was reopened as the Greater Manchester Exhibition Centre. Two phases of recent renovation took place in 2008 and 2009 to future-proof the now-renamed Manchester Central.
